So I should actually be working on my next comic page or the next tarot card...but instead I discovered Photoshop's watercolour brushes and a couple of good digital watercolour tutorials, and...too many hours later ended up with Granny Weatherwax from Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" series. As first experiments go, I don't think this one turned out too badly.
Inspiration taken from Paul Kidby and Tony Diterlizzi.
I'm not exactly sure why I picked Granny Weatherwax for the subject, other than that she presented herself. It occurred to me while painting her that Granny Weatherwax is what you might get if you fused Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape into one person. It further occurred to me that I'd pay good money to see Lord Voldemort trying to cope with Mistress Weatherwax, who I'm sure wouldn't be having with none of those Death Eaters.
For that matter, I expect it'd be worth a few Galleons to see ANY of the HP cast trying to deal with Archchancellor Ridcully and the Bursar. And the Librarian. I'm sure there's a tremendous fanfiction in there somewhere.
The main difference between the DiscWorld and the HP series... is that while reading the HP series, it sure set my imagination on fire. Yet all the characters were just words gathered together. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I had trouble putting faces to any of the HP cast, and resorted to the movies often times... DiscWorld was different. I had to give everyone a face and a voice... all only heard in my head, of course... It's hard to describe the subtleness of DiscWorld... but one book is worth far more than the HP series. And that is saying something, if you know how big an HP fan I am
Nonetheless, this is a good Weatherwax picture. And to answer your challenges... considering Granny singlehandedly stopped her evil sister from taking over Genua, evil elves from invading Lancre, and not very well directed vampires from also taking over Lancre... I'd say that Granny would win hands down. Also, Granny beat Ridcully on wits alone.
Of course.... it would take an artist of your caliber to do justice to my favorite character in the multiverse after Mr. Kidby's depiction. I love your art, always have, and I always will.
Granny would've rid the world of Voldemort before Harry was even out of diapers. By the time Harry had reached Hogwarts age, Voldy would've already spent several years living by a pond, thinking he was a toad or something.
omg! weatherwax vs voldemort. *stabs with hatpin* *voldemort screams, dies.* or arent you ashamed of yourself? what would your mother think? *shuffles feet* well, she...hey! my mothers dead! avada kedavra! and so on

Psychology would convine a child that there's no monster in the closet. Headology will simply give the child a stick to fight it off.
Lol! Too true, too true!
